Penelope R. " Purple Pennie" Pelkey, 50, of Comlinks Way, Lake Placid, NY died unexpectedly Sunday, December 20, 2015 at her home in Lake Placid. Pennie was born February 17, 1965 in Lake Placid, NY the daughter of Burton and Eunice (Travis) Smith. Purple Pennie, loved to help everyone! She took us kids numerous thanksgiving's to NYC to feed the homeless. She took in every stray whether it was an animal or human! She lived for the color purple and music! When she played her guitar she had your full attention like nobody else was in the room!! She was extremely close to her grandkids especially Mercedes. They shared a bond that no one could ever understand they called each other "my happiness" she wrote music she loved camping and hiking. She had purple hair and a happy go lucky attitude! She was a fighter one of the strongest women you'd ever know! She fought for what she believed in! And she hated to see people hungry so if you'd like to donate food to the food pantry in her memory or the pet shelters because she loved to rescue animals. She is survived by her husband: John Piper of Lake Placid, NY; her mother, Eunice Smith of Lake Placid, NY; her children, Desiree Pelkey and Michael Pelkey both of Lake Placid, NY; one brother, Burton Smith of Lake Placid, NY; and two sisters Eunice Graham and her husband Mike and Jackie Smith. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Mercedes, Justice, and Heavenly all of Lake Placid, NY. There are no calling hours. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate the life of Pennie Pelkey will be held at a later date.
