Obituary of Seth Anthony Kilburn

Please share a memory of Seth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Seth Anthony Kilburn, age 34, of Lake Placid, passed away on August 12, 2012. Seth was born in Saranac Lake October 24, 1977, son of David A. "Tony" and Celeste A. (Poirier) Kilburn of Lake Placid. Seth lived most of his life in the Lake Placid area. He is survived by his children Sawyer and Harper; his parents Tony and Celeste Kilburn; his sister Emily Kilburn; his wife Kori Kilburn; his mother and father-in-law Dede and Terry Bailey and his maternal grandfather Donat Poirier. He is predeceased by his maternal grandmother Eleanor Poirier and his paternal grandparents George and Louise Kilburn. Seth had a large and extended group of family and friends who will all miss him dearly. Seth graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1996 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Elementary Education from SUNY Potsdam in 2002. Seth grew up playing many sports, including soccer, baseball and hockey. The coaches and teammates he had throughout the years made lasting impressions on him and helped shape the man he was. Seth's first job was a "rink rat" at the Olympic Arena. He worked there for many years, alongside his good friends Jake Nason and Chris Barry. Seth had a passion for teaching, which included working with disabled persons and troubled youth. He most recently worked at North Star Residential Services and Mountain Lake Academy. Seth chose to live and raise his children in the same place he grew up; throughout his life he felt a true connection and commitment to the people of this community. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 22nd at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid with Rev. John Yankovig, pastor, celebrating the mass. A reception will immediately follow at Seth's parents' house, located at 269 Mill Pond Drive in Lake Placid. A private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a dedicated fund for Seth's children, to be administered on their behalf by Seth's sister, Emily Kilburn. The Sawyer and Harper Kilburn Fund has been established at NBT Bank, 1944 Saranac Ave in Lake Placid. Seth's family would like to thank the Lake Placid Village Police Department, the Department of Environmental Conservation, the NYS Police, the Essex County Sheriff's Department and the Lake Placid Fire Department for their extraordinary efforts. Heartfelt appreciation also goes to all the volunteers who spent numerous hours searching and hoping for his return. Arrangements are in the care of M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Avenue, Lake Placid, NY 12946.
