Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louis "Lou" Joseph Glaude In the early morning of February 6, 2016, Louis passed away peacefully at the Pierre Boucher Hospital in Boucherville, Quebec. Lou was surrounded and supported by family and dear friends during his stay at the nursing home facility. Lou was 84 years old. Lou was born in Champlain, NY on January 30, 1932 and was the son of Albert Glaude of Champlain, NY and Annie (Quilliam) of Montreal, Quebec. Lou grew up in the Town of Champlain NY and attended St Mary's Catholic school. In his teens, and for several years, he worked as a ski maker at the Champlain Ski Shop where he developed a passion for the sport of skiing and assisted the ski patrols regularly at both Stowe and Whiteface ski areas. In early 1950 Lou enlisted in the Army and began his training for eventual deployment to join the Korean War effort. His armored battalion continued training in Germany, where he met his wife, Rita (Eisenacher), the love of his life, and stayed in communication with her throughout the years of the Korean conflict. Lou returned back home to Champlain from his tour in 1955 and was joined shortly after by Rita, to be wed at St Mary's Church in Champlain, NY on May 1st 1955. Lou and Rita made their home for many years in Rouses Point NY, on Rose Avenue, where Lou owned and operated the Gulf gas station and soon after, Rita began working in the office of at Ayerst Labs. When times got tough, they eventually decided to move and live in Montreal, Canada, and raised two children, Nicole and Eric. Lou worked for many years as Service Manager at Laval Chrysler and then moved onto work for Gulf Oil Refinery as a Chief Mechanic until he retired from the Montreal area refinery. Lou's deep ties to his roots in the North Country never ceased. Lou and Rita maintained a summer home on Rose Avenue overlooking beautiful Lake Champlain. Summers were characterized by joyful 4th of July celebrations with the firing of the infamous cannon and time spent on Lake Champlain on the iconic Century wood boat "Rita". The cold winters set the stage for good times by the camp fire with the "Rocket" serving as the ultimate fireplace. Lou is survived by his children, Nicole (Sylvie) and Eric (Laura), his sister Jacqueline Chauvin, and many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 4, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Church, 86 Church St, Champlain, NY, 12919 with final honors held at Prospect Hill Cemetery by the old trees. A lunch reception will follow memorial services at the Knights of Columbus, 3 Oak St, Champlain, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family would like for you to please consider making a donation in Lou's name to either Veterans of Foreign Wars (www.vfw.org) or the American Legion (www.legion.org). Either choice would be sure to make him proud. Arrangements are in the care of M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Champlain.
