Obituary of J. Terry Ladd

J. Terry Ladd lost his long battle with cancer at UVM/CVPH on May 17th, 2016. He was born June 24, 1946 in Plattsburgh, New York to Georgiana and Earle Ladd. Terry attended SUNY Campus School through 5th grade. He then attended Peru Central School, graduating in 1964. Terry was a stand-out athlete at Peru, particularly in basketball. He lettered four years in football, basketball and baseball. He ran track for two years to garner 14 varsity letters. He briefly attended Miami Dade College where he played on their basketball team. Terry enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam in 1967 and 1968. While serving in the 24th Infantry Division, Terry was wounded, earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. For 2 years he co-managed The Yacht Club bar in Plattsburgh, after which he ran his parents' farm for 3 years. In 1988 Terry moved to Rouses Point where he went into business with his dear friend, Pat DiNatale, running Armond's 2 for 20 years. Upon retirement he lived in Rouses Point and wintered in Florida. Terry belonged to the VFW and American Legion. He was an excellent cook, a prolific reader, and a gentleman gardener. A die-hard Red Sox fan, Terry was known to place friendly wagers on his NY Giants, Montreal Canadiens, and Boston Celtics. His Syracuse road trips were legendary. Terry is survived by the love of his live, his daughter, Heather Steinman, her husband Brian Steinman and grandchildren, Danny Brostron, Andralyn Brostron and Emerson Steinman. In addition he is survived by his siblings: Bruce and Shirley Ladd, Christie Hoban, Jackie and Al Pavese and Craig and Linda Ladd. To his nieces and nephews, Teresa and Bob Hoban, Lori Pavese Mazor, Kelly (Jason) Hyatt, Erica and Elizabeth Ladd he was known as Uncle T. He is fondly remembered by his grand-niece and nephews, Elle Mazor, Jayce Hyatt, Caleb Hyatt and Luke Hyatt. He was a warm, loving individual with a wry sense of humor, who will be missed by all. All Terry's friends are invited by his family to gather at the Rouses Point American Legion Post 912 on Sunday, June 12 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. to celebrate his life, and share food, drink and memories.
