Richard B. Boyer Three Time All American Goalie, dedicated community servant, and local business owner passes away. Fifty-Eight year, Lake Placid resident has lost his battle with long term medical complications on June 11, 2016. Richard B. Boyer born in Albany, NY November 21, 1950 the second twin to arrive to his parents Fletcher and Ruth Boyer. During the summer of 1957 Richard moved to Lake Placid, NY with his older twin Robert A. Boyer and oldest brother Clark F. Boyer. This move to a new community started Richard on a path of fellowship and new friends. Graduation from Lake Placid High School started him on a career path at his parents' Ford Dealership, Mountain Motors, followed by a long time career with the Village of Lake Placid Highway Department. While at the Highway Department Richard was elevated to Highway Superintendent after many years of performing highway maintenance tasks from paving to street cleaning. During this same time period the Lake Placid Fire Department became near and dear to him. His thirty plus years of active participation included working as the race team driver, part time apparatus driver, and then climbing the officer ranks culminating with the honor of Department Chief. Richard represented the Fire Department and the Community as President of Northern New York Firemen's Association and Department Representative to the New York State Firemen's Association. After retirement from the Village Highway Department, Richard turned his attention to his part time business and brought it forward to a successful community service. Operating Boyer's Septic Service, Richard provide a necessary service with Port-a- Johns and septic system service. As he always said, "we are number one in the number two business". A lover of outdoor sports, Richard enjoyed his time at hunting camp with his friends, watching his grandchildren participate in organized sports plus being a longtime fan of Mark Martin driving his NASCAR number 6. Richard is survived by his wife Catherine (Beattie) Boyer, daughter Jennifer (Jeremy) Mihill, grandchildren Jocelyn and Jarrett Mihill, brothers Robert (Ronna) Boyer of Naples, FL. and children Michelle Dole and children Rachel and Ryan of Springfield, MO, Mark Boyer of Atlanta, GA, and older brother Clark Boyer of Averill Park, NY and children Kathleen (Jeffery) Adams of Nevada City, CA and David Boyer of Bend, OR. Richard was predeceased by his parents Fletcher T. and Ruth A. (Alger) Boyer who would have celebrated their 100th birthdays in 2017. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, June 14th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department Prayer Service at 7:30 PM at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY. Cremation will follow. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 17th at 10:00 AM at St. Eustace Episcopal Church in Lake Placid, NY. Rev. David Ousley will officiate. The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Lake Placid Vol. Fire Department, P.O. Box 569, Lake Placid, NY or Volunteer Firemen's home of State of New York, 125 Harry Howard Ave., Hudson, NY 12534.
