Lawrence (Larry) C. Barcomb, 79 of Route 9 Champlain died unexpectedly on Wednesday March 27, 2013 at his winter home in Bonita Springs, Florida. Lawrence was born on November 18, 1933 in Sciota, NY the son of Lawrence C. Barcomb Sr. and Beatrice (Guyette) Barcomb. After graduating from Mooers Central School, Larry served with the U.S. Army as an M.P. from 1955 - 1957. Upon returning from the Service, Larry married Norma Pelkey on June 8, 1957 at St. Mary's Church in Champlain. Larry worked as a lineman with NYSEG until 1965, at which time he started the family business, Barcomb's T.V. and Furniture on Route 9 in Champlain. While working 12 hour days with his wife Norma, and raising a family, they still found time to open a second furniture store in Chateauguay and a third in Plattsburgh. In 1972 while on vacation, Larry and Norma discovered the beautiful town of Bonita Springs in southwest Florida. Larry saw opportunity for growth in Florida and began Barcomb's Florida Enterprises, a successful real estate firm that purchased and developed both residential and commercial property. In his spare time, Larry was an avid golfer. He was very involved with the North County Golf Club in Rouses Point and served in several capacities including board president. Larry continued to golf into retirement at his winter home on the 16th green of Spring Run Golf Course in Bonita Springs, FL. Larry also enjoyed gardening and playing the organ. In his younger years, Larry achieved the rating of private pilot and was the proud owner of a piper cub airplane. Larry was an avid sports fan and into his later years enjoyed attending the sporting events of his grandsons. He was also a life member of Champlain Knights of Columbus Council 3525. Larry was predeceased by his parents, and a son Bruce Barcomb. His loving family includes his wife of over 55 years Norma of Champlain and Bonita Springs, FL, his sons Randy and wife Tuesday Barcomb of Champlain, James Barcomb of Plattsburgh, and a daughter in law Pamela Barcomb of Champlain, his grandsons Timothy Barcomb and companion Katie Harz of Malone, Michael and wife Maiko Barcomb of Plattsburgh, and Ryan Barcomb of Plattsburgh, and a great granddaughter Emma Barcomb. Also surviving, are his brothers Ronald Barcomb and wife Hugette of Champlain and Donald Barcomb and wife Bernice of Mooers, his sisters Shirlene Buskey of Mooers and Darlene LaValley and husband Gerald of Mooers Forks, and step grandchildren Matthew and Brittany Godreau. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Calling hours will be held from 4-7 P.M. on Friday April 5th at M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm St., Champlain, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday April 6th at St. Joseph's Church, Mason Road, Coopersville, New York with the Rev. Clyde A. Lewis, pastor, celebrating the mass. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Knights of Columbus in Champlain, New York. Interment will be at a later date in the parish cemetery.
