Obituary of Leondas James Hadjis

Leondas "Jimmy" Hadjis, 89, of Lake Placid, NY, passed away suddenly at home on May 20, 2025. Jimmy was born on February 6, 1936, in Lake Placid to Eugenia and James Hadjis. He was proud to call Lake Placid home for his entire life and deeply valued his connection to the community. As a boy, he played goalie for Lake Placid's first Pee Wee hockey team. In 1949, his team was honored to be one of six chosen to compete at Madison Square Garden—an experience he always cherished. Jimmy graduated from Northwood School in 1955 and when on to Paul Smith's College, where he graduated in 1958. After college, Jimmy dedicated himself to the family business, where he became a master chef and co-owner of The Charcoal Pit, a well-loved restaurant that his family operated for 50 years. Jimmy took great pride in his work and in engaging in public service. His passion for food and hospitality left a lasting impression on locals and visitors alike. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Jimmy was an active member of the American Legion and deeply committed to serving his community. He was involved in several civic organizations, including the Lion's Club, the Masons, and the Shriners. His generous spirit showed in the many ways he gave back—whether helping organize community lunches at the Adirondack Community Church or volunteering at local fundraisers and town events. Jimmy never hesitated to lend a hand and was always ready to step in wherever he was needed. Jimmy was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a warm presence that made people feel at ease, and his generous heart and thunderous laugh left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Eugenia Hadjis, and his brother, Thomas Hadjis. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Efrosini "Francine" Hadjis; his daughter, Angela Tzamouranis and her husband, Yannis; his cherished grandchildren, Sage and Jade Tzamouranis; and his sister, Maria Botoulas. Visitation hours will be held at M. B. Clark, Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Friday, May 23rd, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 p.m. The Lions Club of Lake Placid will offer a prayer service at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Masonic Lodge Prayer Service and an American Legion Prayer service will follow the Masons, all at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held following the prayer services at 2:00 pm, at the funeral home, followed by burial at North Elba Cemetery. Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. with a reception to follow. The location of the reception will be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion or the Lion's Club of Lake Placid in Jimmy's name, honoring his service and lifelong commitment to his community.
