Where do we start…August 1969 and Gretl their dog chasing me on old soccer/lacrosse field as I was running sprits while practices scooping lacrosse balls and she stole my ball! Bear came out of dorm and got the ball for me…and said “I am Bruce Colon…new football and ski coach” Introduced myself as Dill and we would ski together …and that we did we raced all over the US and coached together in Europe…he was a great influence in my life as really had no family at Northwood but Bear…Nancy…Laurie…Clarke…Lisa…Eric “Bull”…it was magical and the ride continues…love you Bear …and all the Colons…you are in. A better place and look forward to seeing you in heaven…Dill

I knew Bruce for only a brief spell of time. It was the Winter of 1978-79 when he was my coach on the ski team at NCCC. He was also instrumental introducing me to Horst Weber and getting me a part time job at NYSEF. I will never forget how he sparked me to train harder and be a more precise skier. I carry these lessons to this very day. But more important than the skiing aspect, OK, I know it’s hard to find something more important, but in this case Bruce took a New York City kid from a splintered family and helped him find camaraderie, support and a focused determination to crawl back from the edge, embrace what we have and work hard to make the best of it. I’ve had that ever since I met him and to this day value his influence, friendship and life lessons.
My condolences on your loss. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences at Bruce's passing. Growing up in Lake Placid and training at Whiteface was a big part of what formed me as a ski racer. Bruce was a memorable part of that.
Many hugs, Lisa Feinberg Ballard

The strength of a school like Northwood is the bond between the Faculty, their families, the staff and the students. We were a.bunch of cocky young kids who needed to be corralled, taught and coached. Bruce ("Bear" ) was one of the best at bringing out the best in us. I feel fortunate to have been around him over the years and to bask in his wisdom. My condolences to the entire Colon Family.

So sorry to hear of Bruce’s passing. I met him when I was a caddy at Craig Wood Country Club and he was one of the best. He always was such a gentleman, dressed well and everyone there really enjoyed being around him. He continued to do great things in Lake Placid and around us and created a great family. I am sure you have great memories!

It was our (Judi and me) great pleasure to work with and get to know Bruce at Northwood School from 1972-1976. He was the Assistant Headmaster, teacher and coach of multiple sports. During that time, we also came to know Nancy and the kids and greatly valued their contribution to the school and the Lake Placid region.
Bruce Colon had a profound impact on the world of skiing not only in the North Country, but in New England as well. Due to his vision and persistence, NYSEF was founded and still thrives today. Carrabasset Valley School was Bruce's brainchild and modeled many additional sports specific academies throughout the ski world.
Bruce's impact on the sport of skiing, and the student athletes involved in it, will live on as his legacy.
We will remember him for his commitment to an idea and those fortunate enough to come in to contact with it.
Sincerely,
Ed and Judi Good
