Rory Leon Hill Obituary
Rory Leon Hill, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at his home in Rouses Point, NY. Rory was born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on March 7, 1964. He was the second child and only son of Donald A. Hill and Linda Lee (Strack) Hill. He was a 1982 graduate of Lake Placid High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force.
After graduating from Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, he was stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada. He left the Air Force in 1990. While in Las Vegas, he met and married his wife Brenda Behrman (now Behrman-Raines). They had one child together, a son, Cody William in 1993. A few years later they separated and eventually divorced. Rory remained in Las Vegas and worked managing one of the many night clubs, Hurricane Harry’s, while living life to the fullest until he returned to Lake Placid in 2004. He would remain in New York until his death.
Rory had an amazing sense of humor and was a huge prankster. He made up for the fact that he was the only boy in the family by relentlessly teasing and torturing his four sisters. When he was around you knew to expect a lot of laughs. He could reminisce for hours about his shenanigans with his many cousins and friends while growing up. If there was trouble, he was bound to find it. He couldn’t help but do what was best left undone. In one instance, his mischief actually paid off. Being a big hockey fan, at 16 years old Rory snuck into the arena to secretly watch the 1980 hockey team practice prior to the Olympics. Herb Brooks caught sight of him and approached him saying, “if you’re going to watch, you may as well work.” He became the team’s stick boy for the duration of the games, creating friendships and memories he cherished. They treated him like one of the team, inviting him to reunions throughout the years and contacting him on their own trips back to Lake Placid.
Despite his eagerness to sometimes create chaos, Rory was also an extremely compassionate, empathetic and loving individual. He wasn’t afraid to be vulnerable and was patient when you needed someone to just listen. He wasn’t prone to judge too harshly because he realized first-hand that everyone was living with some sort of struggle. He could be honest to a fault letting you know if you’d put on weight. As much as he enjoyed pestering his sisters, he was just as fierce in protecting them. When it came to his mother Linda, Rory could do no wrong in her eyes. She would believe literally anything he said and he was known as her only child who refused to say the F-word in her presence. It was a running joke in the family that he was hands-down her favorite.
It is/was no secret that Rory’s life didn’t come without struggles. Severe Depression and Anxiety along with a back injury in his 30’s led to a life-long addiction to Benzodiazepines and Opioids that caused him to go silent for months at a time. At gatherings, it wasn’t uncommon for fear to take shape as anger and fights to ensue, but Rory was never one to hold a grudge. He was always the first to reach out, apologize if necessary or admit he was wrong. He ALWAYS ended a phone call, text or well spent day with the words, “I love you.” Rory was preceded in death by his father, Donald A. Hill whom he shared a love of the Detroit Red Wings and Lions as well as fishing. Left behind to cherish his memory are his son, Cody (Samantha) Hill of Las Vegas, NV, his mother Linda (Donald) Hill of Lake Placid, NY, his sisters, Valerie (Rick) Dupont of Poultney, VT, Lisa (Nick) Planty of Lake Placid, NY, Rana (David) Smith of Keeseville, NY, and Leslie (Hill) Plank of Lake Placid, NY, 4 nieces, 5 nephews, 2 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews as well as a large extended family.
