Catherine Madden Wescott, 69, of Lake Placid, NY, passed away on July 14, 2026, in Mt. Airy, Maryland.

Catherine was born in Lake Placid, NY, at the Lake Placid Memorial Hospital to Dr. Robert Francis Madden and Edith Yard Madden on December 13, 1956. She went to St. Agnes School and then to Lake Placid High School, graduating in 1974. She went on to earn her Bachelors in Education, and a Masters in Biology from Shippensburg University. She worked as a middle and high school science teacher at Washington County Public Schools in Maryland. She taught for 23 years. When she wasn't teaching, she enjoyed all of her many grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Catherine also centered her time around her unwavering catholic faith, for which she modeled to her children and grandchildren in words and in action. Always goodness, always gentleness and always grace... to everyone she met. No matter the circumstance, her generous and kind heart knew no end.

She is lovingly remembered by husband Guy George Wescott, III and her children: Mackenzie Anne Wescott and her son, Liam Gregory Shackelford; Chad and Farran McClanahan and their children, Charles Colby McClanahan, Harrison George McClanahan, Thomas Henry McClanahan, and Charlotte Grace McClanahan; and Hugh and Mona Wescott and their children, Alda Breckmann Wescott, Brima Breckmann Wescott, and Elsa Breckmann Wescott. Also her loving brothers and sisters: Edith Colby Madden, Michael Francis Madden (deceased), Peter Munro Madden, Jeffrey Paul Madden, John Robert Madden, and Rebecca Ruth Mason.

Catherine found her greatest joy in being a mother and a grandmother. Her family and faith centered her axis. She treasured every moment loving on all her little grandbabies, and the big grandbabies, and knitting beautiful Scandinavian sweaters and mittens and hats for them, and traveling the globe to visit her brothers and sisters. She was the first to travel to the Faroe Islands to hold her newest and youngest grandbaby, Brim, at the time.

Mass will be held at St. Agnes Church on July 24, 2026, in Lake Placid, NY, at 2pm, with burial to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, on Sentinel Road in Lake Placid. M.B.Clark Funeral home is handling the funeral arrangements.
