Roland H. Patnode, 94, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026. Born on May 30, 1932, in Onchiota, New York, Roland was the son of Oliver and Dora Patnode. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he took advantage of the GI Bill to further his education in communications and electronics. Roland dedicated his career to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, where he worked in communications until his retirement. On May 16, 1950, Roland married the love of his life, Jackie Jones. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage before Jackie's passing in 2015. Their lifelong devotion to one another was an inspiration to all who knew them. Roland was a man of service, generosity, and community spirit. An avid volunteer, he was honored as Saranac Lake's Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his countless contributions. He devoted his time to St. Bernard's School, the Saranac Lake Carousel, and the Adirondack 90-Miler canoe race. He was also the founder of the Tri-Lakes Amateur Radio Club and was a passionate amateur (ham) radio operator from the age of nine, a hobby that remained a lifelong source of enjoyment and friendship. He was known by many as the wizard, for his ability to fix anything and everything. Roland is survived by his daughter, Tammy Patnode Stanton, and her husband, Wes, of Lake Placid, New York. His chosen daughter #2 Ann Theobald and his best friend Margaret Wilcox of Saranac Lake. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jackie; his parents, Oliver and Dora Patnode; and his siblings, Harold, Millie, Walter, Geneva, Frank, Robert, and his twin brother, Ray. Roland will be remembered for his quiet kindness, unwavering willingness to help others, love of family and community, and the lasting impact he made through a lifetime of service. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral services. The M. B. Clark, Inc., Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY is in charge of arrangements. Those wishing to honor Roland's memory may make a donation to the Joshua Fund Dog Rescue.
