It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John W. Coppinger, who passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on August 21, 2026 at the age of 76.

John W. Coppinger was born on 11/04/1949 in Poughkeepsie, NY to John N. Coppinger and Mary (Lipinski) Coppinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife of 38 years, Rita (Planty) Coppinger. He is survived by his son Adam Planty and wife Maria of Cherryville, NC, daughter Andrea Oles and husband Clayton of Poughkeepsie, NY, and daughter Stephanie Webster and husband Jim of Poughkeepsie, NY. Nephew Matt and wife Shyanne Planty. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren.

John is a military veteran and served as an engineer in the United States Army and United States Army Reserves from 1969 thru 1978. He was active in the American Legion, Post 326 Lake Placid, NY for many years serving on the Board of Directors and held the positions of 2nd Vice Commander and he also was Commander of the Essex County Sons of the American Legion. John spent 29 years working at Placid Memorial Hospital, the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid and at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, retiring as the Assistant Engineer for Plant Operations in the Fall of 2020. His kindness, love, and dedication touched many lives. May he rest in peace and remain forever in our hearts.

A Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, August 25th at 2:00 PM at North Elba Cemetery. Rev. Amanda Cash will officiate. An American Legion Prayer Service and Military Honors will be provided by The American Legion, Post 326, Lake Placid and the United States Army. The M. B. Clark, Inc.
