I regret I am unable to attend the memorial service for Paul today (Friday, April 12) at Saint Michael's College. Therefore, I want to let the family know that I feel very honored indeed to have been a faculty member at Saint Michael's College during Paul's tenure there as president. He was a superb president, and he put the college on the trajectory to make it an excellent Catholic college in the Northeast. In the many committee meetings and social events I shared with him, he was always a congenial and wise person of the highest integrity. My deepest condolences to his family for their loss, George Dameron (History, Emeritus, Saint Michael's College)

to Reiss Family - thank you for that marvelous
listing of Paul's meaningful life (received from Holy
Cross Alumni office). We shared some class of '52 activities where I came to respect his scholarship and easy friendship. And what a
surprise to have my daughter, a student at
St. Michael's College, tell me about a new
president! John J. Kapp HC'52

My heartfelt condolences to the entire Reiss family.
Dr. Reiss’ extraordinary generosity and commitment to serving the Nativity Mission Center community left a memorable mark on the lives of many. Camp Monserrate’s Summer Leadership Training Program gave us the opportunity to learn, teach each other how to swim, play, hike the Adirondack Mountains and develop as young leaders. I am privileged to be a recipient of the Nativity College Fund, which paved the way for me to attend St. Michael's College. The impact of Dr Reiss’ kindness and support will forever be etched in my heart, and I am endlessly grateful for the opportunities he made possible.
Celebrating the life of a great person.

Paul and Rosemary Reiss are distant relatives. I remember Paul having a smile that could brighten up the room. Years ago, Rosemary and my grandma Marguerite Reeder shared carpool duties driving my mom Cathy to school at Ursuline and my Uncles went to Fordham Prep. Both Paul and Rosemary attended my uncle's funeral in 2017 and their presence was comforting to my family. These photos were taken July 4th 2018 during the Sinfonietta's performance at Mids Park in Lake Placid. This was my first summer working as a photographer for the local tourism bureau. If memory serves me well Rosemary said her granddaughters were dancing on the rock, hopefully I have that right! Both Rosemary and Paul welcomed me to town, and that made me feel so good. They were good-hearted people and so generous. May you all feel comfort in reminiscing many loving memories and continually find strength in their legacy.

In 1962, when Paul invited Fr.Janer, S.J., and the Nativity Mission Center in NYC to use the Julian Reiss Foundation camp in Lake Placid for its burgeoning summer program, it was the beginning of decades of a relationship that served as the underpinning of the whole Nativity School movement. The middle school opened on New York's Lower East Side in 1971, and the seven week program at Camp Monserrate in Lake Placid became the major support program.
As time went on, the Nativity Model inspired others to open new "Nativity schools" around the country. The success of these schools seemed to encourage others to start high school (e.g. Cristo Rey) and college (e.g. Arrupe College) programs that recognized similar community needs.
All of this started as a result of the 1962 commitment of Paul, Rosemary, and their family to find solutions to societal needs. Many thanks for amazing care and generosity over generations.

We felt blessed to have such a wonderful Aunt and Uncle, who always made time for us. When Keenan was looking at colleges in Vermont back in 2018. Aunt Rosemary and Uncle Paul made time to have dinner with us on our first tight in town. When I was in College I would visit them in Bronxville, NY from time to time. On one occasion, I had just picked up a copy of The Naked Ape, by Desmond Morris for the train ride, and when Uncle Paul noticed I was reading it, mentioned he had recently published a review of the book, and gave me a copy before I left. I remember thinking how cool that was. Anyway, I loved knowing them both and so did Christine. They are together now. Peace to all.

My deepest condolences to the Reiss family. Dr. Reiss’ generosity provided a wonderful opportunity for kids from the toughest parts of NYC to escape for the summer and enjoy the great outdoors. Camp Monserrate’s leadership training program changed the lives of thousands of kids, their families, and generations to come. Though he did not know me, the Dr. Reiss and his partnership with Nativity Mission Center changed my life.

What an incredible legacy both Paul and Rosemary left, I was so saddened to hear of Paul's passing, my time spent with them both was so impactful and I will never forget their passion for the Lake Placid Sinfonietta, that inspired me. While music director I stayed in their house several times and had so many conversations with Paul about music, about life and of course his beloved Sinfonietta. The picture below was from August 11, 2018 right after my last rehearsal with the Sinfonietta. They were the only 2 in the audience, but it felt as though with their presence, the house was full. My deepest condolences to his family, his loss will be deeply felt.

My sincere condolences to the Reiss family. I have only fond memories of your parents during my employment at Saint Michael’s. Two memories stand out - your Dad’s animated performance playing Christmas jingles on the piano to the delight of the children and adults alike. It was unplanned and so appreciated! I had the good fortune of joining a group of physical plant volunteers at the camp in Lake Placid to do several maintenance projects. Your parents were there, as well, and we so enjoyed their hospitality. Forever grateful for their commitment to the College.
