Obituary of Elaine M. Manigold

Please share a memory of Elaine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elaine M. Manigold, 96, of Champlain, NY passed away at her home on April 26, 2024 after a brief illness. Elaine was born on July 22, 1927 to the late Claude and Virginia Worden in Oswego, NY. She graduated as a registered nurse from Plattsburgh State University. Elaine was a member of the last class of the “Cadet Nursing Corp.” She completed her 4-year nursing degree in 3 years, and began her lifelong nursing career. Her 42-year nursing career began in Watertown, NY at the House of Good Samaritan in medical/surgery, and ended at Cedar Hedge Nursing Home in Rouses Point, NY. Elaine married Robert Eugene Manigold on October 14, 1950. They lived in Watertown, NY before moving to Champlain, NY with their two children, Christine and Robert, Jr. Elaine was a devout Christian and was very involved with her church, Christ & St. John’s Church in Champlain, NY, where she served faithfully on the Vestry and Altar Guild. She enjoyed a full life doing what she loved: nursing, home-making, gardening, golfing, reading, sewing, cooking, playing bridge & dominoes, and staying active. Elaine was an active member of the Champlain Literary Club and was an avid reader. She enjoyed learning new things and “taking new adventures” through the books she read. Elaine enjoyed sewing, not only for personal pleasure, but as a member of a ladies’ quilting group that, over the years, made hundreds, if not thousands of quilts for mothers and children who fled unhealthy family situations. Elaine also loved making little girl dresses that were sent to children in need all over the United States and other countries. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Claude and Virginia, two sisters, Winona and Joan, two brothers, Claude and Edward, and her husband, Robert. Elaine is survived by her sister, Claudia Worden, nieces and nephews, two children, Christine Mayer (Sarasota, FL) and Robert E. Manigold, Jr. (West River, MD), two grandsons, David Mayer and his wife, Debra (Orlando, FL), and Thomas Mayer and his wife, Meghan (Oak Park, MI), and great-grandchildren, William, Joseph, Daniel (FL), Kennedy, and Elle (MI). A celebration of a “life well lived” will be in July around her 97th birthday, with burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Watertown, NY. In lieu of flowers, a grateful family requests donations be made to Hospice of the North Country.
