I always injoyed going to McD's KV Hardware and seeing David. As a contracotr, I made a point of buying from him as much as possible--both because of who David was and and because I believe in supporting local business. He was a knowledgable and and affable man. I am grateful I got a chance to visit with him about 3 months ago when I needed some paint, and that I took the to time to chat with him at degth about his illness. He was optimistic, but sadly, his optimism did not prove true. Yet, that optimisim in the face of such a tragic illness showed me great stength and character, and I treasure that.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children. He will be very missed. And I can only hope that the legacy of his unique hardware sttore in this time of impersonal, generatic big box stores, while some how be carried on.
Best wishes to all of you.
Sincerely, Steve and Nan Amstutz, Upper Jay, NY

David was one of a kind--a uniquely kind and generous person with "malice towards none and charity towards all." His loss is an immense one. I hope his family finds comfort

he took such pleasure in customers finding cool things in the store; my favorite kind of leather gloves with a little smudge of red ink from Irene, no problem!

Kind and generous only begin to describe Dave. He always greeted me with smile, a "welcome back," and a promise to come visit me in Ireland. I am sorry he didn't get here; I am more sorry he is gone.
His kindness to everyone, especially to my Mom as she grew more and more confused, is incalculable. Dave and the store seemed to ground Mom when she wasn't sure what she was doing. His patience and ability to listen to her stories, over and over and over again, can never be forgotten.
We have all lost a wonderful friend, and I share in the Valley's mourning.
My love to Paula, Val, and the entire family. Sending shamrocks your way as well as a huge hug. Di

David was an amazing man. David came from strong "roots" and carried that on to his family. I am blessed to call him my cousin. He married my cousin Paula 33 years ago when I was 8 years old. I still remember that day well. The entire town of Keene was talking about it. David, you had a positive influence on my life. You are the type of man that I aspire to be. I hope that I am half the father to Karley Grace that you were to your 3 children. You will be missed by me and also a "community". Beautiful person and a beautiful voice!!!!!!!!! RIP cousin

David was part of the fabric of our lives in Keene Valley. His advice on any of our crazy project that we came up with over the years was always wise, after a good laugh. He always wanted to know the before and after stories of our misadventures in building or fixing things, and specially patient when it came to our painting endeavors.
We say goodbye to a gente soul, a true gentleman and we will miss our dear friend always.

Dear Paula and Family,
I was so sad to hear the news of David's passing. Please know that I thought the world of him and have such fond memories of visiting with him and my mother at the Hardware. His laugh was infectious, and he always had a kind word and the biggest smile. I know this is a very tough time for you all and I send you love and strength. Thinking of you all. Love, Nell

I have worked in the advertising biz for many years and always enjoyed stopping in to see Dave.
whether I got an ad or not it was always a pleasure to chat, see what was going on in town and there was usually a kitty to pet if he was with a customer.
It was a pleasure knowing him.
My sincere condolences to the family
