Obituary of Marlene F. Vespa

Please share a memory of Marlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marlene Vespa passed away gently in her sleep Sunday June 9th 2024. Marlene (Godin) was born in Alburgh, Vermont on February 22, 1933. She spent her early years studying at Burlington High School and skiing at Stowe with her friends. Her love for the mountains and her fondness of the cold, clean air brought her to Lake Placid in the 1950s. While working as an elevator operator she met her husband and then bellhop George R. Vespa. Together they would embark on a mutual love for family, food and work. They worked in concert to complement each other's strengths, skills and passion. Their hard work and commitment to their community enabled them to enjoy success along with their community at the time. Marlene, with her husband and loyal daughters, opened the Villa Vespa Restaurant in 1974. This became a local staple which not only employed many locals throughout the decades, but created a gathering place enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Marlene was known to help many women throughout her life with resources and a quick definitive wit. Her compassion and generosity were boundless. Her energy, joy and love for family will be missed at each turn. We cherish our memories of Marlene. Marlene was predeceased by her parents Floyd and Argentine Godin, Brother Reginald (Fay). Surviving are three daughters, Kimberly Vespa, Elizabeth Reid, Alethea Vespa (Husband Bart V. Patnode) all of Lake Placid. She has three grandsons, Timothy Reid and Nicholas Reid both from Denver, CO. Connor Reid (Jadyn) of Lake Placid. One granddaughter Emma Roach (Lincoln) of Clifton Park NY. and a great Granddaughter Kinley. Services will be held at the convenance of the family. The M. B. Clark, Inc., Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY is in charge of arrangements. Please visit www.mbclarkfuneralhome.com to share a story, upload a photo or leave condolences.
