Obituary of Charles Goodman Rascoe
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that the Rascoe, Peacock family share the passing of our beloved Charles Goodman Rascoe. Surrounded by his family during his final days, Charlie passed away at home with hospice care on October 12, 2024.
Charlie was born on January 31, 1952 at Lake Placid Memorial Hospital. He attended Saint Agnes School and served proudly as an altar boy at St. Agnes Church. He attended Mount Assumption Institute in Plattsburgh, NY for 3 years and transferred to Lake Placid Central School for his senior year, graduating with the class of 1971.
Charlie loved the hotel business beginning his career at age 9 working diligently in the kitchen at his parents' hotel, The Saint Moritz. He continued his passion for the industry managing restaurants for Friendly's in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. He later decided to spread his wings in the early ninety's when he moved to Jupiter, Florida and was employed by Eddie Yanchitis and assisted as manager of The Dune Dog Café for several years. He was proud to roll out the Thursday night lobster special at Dune Dogs, that continued to be one of the highlights at the Jupiter location and two new locations in Stewart, Florida and Juno Beach, Florida. In the early 2000's, Charlie decided to move back to his hometown to continue his love of the restaurant business. He became good friends with Bosnian and Russian families that were settling in Lake Placid, NY and looking to be a part of the restaurant business. He dedicated most of his time assisting these wonderful families by planning their kitchen designs. Years later Charlie decided that a good bagel business was needed on Main Street in Lake Placid and he bought Soulshine Bagels. After several years of enjoying growing his business, he decided to slow down and sold the business to a wonderful Russian couple that he met in the restaurant community. He loved visiting all the restaurant owners along Main St. and "chewing the fat".
Charlie was also proud to be seated on the zoning appeals board for Lake placid, NY for several years. He always ensured that his representation and discussions on the board would always be what was in the best interest of the community. You always knew where you stood dealing with Charlie.
He is survived by his sister, Connie Rascoe of Lake Placid, NY, his brother William of Stuart, Florida, his brother Thomas and wife Anne of Queensbury, NY and a niece, Kathryn Joan Rascoe of New York City, step brothers Greg Peacock of Lake Placid, Gary Peacock and Jamie of Queensbury, NY and his step sister Nancy Peacock of Lake Placid, NY. He is also survived by several cousins and his Aunt Nancy Dixon of Sarasota, Florida.
His parents William E. Rascoe and Joan Dixon Peacock, his step father Robert J. Peacock, his sister Patricia Rascoe and step brother Robert T. Peacock, all predeceased him.
There will be no calling hours. A requiem mass for Charlie will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Agnes Church with Father John Yonkovig officiating. Interment will follow after the funeral at Saint Agnes Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, Charlie requested gifts in his memory to High Peaks Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as, Saint Agnes School.
May he rest in peace.
