Poppa, I love you forever and ever! The one thing I don't regret the most is visiting you for the summer of 2024. I have no words to describe your goodness, and I will pass on the goodness you gave me to others. Thank you for always love to eat my dumplings, thank you for everything.
Momma, take care of yourself and wait for me.

Daniel Lundin was my very first supervisor in 1974 as I embarked on my career in the field of cell & tissue culture at the W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center. Few people will ever know the role Dan, and those who worked under his guidance, played in the betterment of all the lives on this little blue marble called Earth. Wars are fought, but only the Generals who led the fight are remembered, not the unknown soldiers who went into battle. Dan’s work at the Cell Center trained thousands of people from various fields of science, who then went on to find scientific answers to minimize the effects of diseases and even eliminate their harm to humans. That work continues to this day, and beyond. Those individuals who became famous for their accomplishments rested on the training that Dan once helped provide. Years later Dan’s knowledge & experiences prepared him to develop a little-known business called Bionique Testing Laboratories, into a world-renowned leader in the field of mycoplasma testing, which proudly supports the scientific battle of others. Maybe one day the name, Daniel J. Lundin, will be known and stand deservedly beside those Scientific Generals whose accomplishments rested on the scientific soldiers Dan once quietly trained & led.
As a personal note, my career came full circle when I returned to the Adirondacks and once again worked for Dan at Bionique prior to retiring. Dan was more than a supervisor & employer, he was a true friend, as was his family. I felt more like an extended family member by virtue of friendship & scientific association than as an employee. It was my pleasure and privilege to have known him for 5 decades, nor could I have asked for a more wonderful & rewarding career for myself as a result of having known him. He will be missed, but not forgotten. Judy once told me she envisioned Dan & I sitting together in rocking chairs at Uihlein (a nursing home) someday. Maybe when my times comes, we’ll still do that; in a better world somewhere out there.

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of Uncle Dan. He always found a way to make our trips up to Lake Placid special, and helped me to grow my love for the Adirondacks in many ways. Anyone I knew who had the privilege to meet him always was better for it, and all shared an admiration for him. He was always very generous, very kind, and a great Uncle. He will be very missed.
