Obituary of Joan Marie LaHart

Joan M. LaHart died, July 20 in her home in Lake Placid surrounded by her family. Joan was born Dec. 19, 1926 in Brooklyn N.Y., the daughter of Pauline and Joseph Grant. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell High School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial Academy in NYC. In 1947 Joan and her mother arrived in Lake Placid for the summer. She was employed at the Marcy Hotel and dated one of the locals, Jack LaHart. In September of 1948 they were married in St. Agnes Church. Having raised six children, Joan became the owner and operator of Upstate Vending in 1981, upon the passing of her husband, Jack. Joan's relationship with St. Agnes Church continued over the years. She was involved with the Catholic Daughters and was the church secretary for many years until her retirement in 2009. Joan is survived by Susan (Wenzell) Hayes of Adams Center, NY, Lisa (George) Spence of Hatfield MA., Linda (Scott) Benty, Steve LaHart, Russell LaHart of Lake Placid, William LaHart of Hatfield, MA; 13 grandchildren and 6 great grand children. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, July 30th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home, Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, NY. A Mass of Christian burial be Held Wednesday, July 31st at 1:00 PM at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lake Placid, NY. Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.
