Obituary of Matthew Hurley Devlin

Matthew Hurley Devlin, Jr. 66 passed away peacefully at home on August 22, 2013 after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by friends and family. Matt was born in Lake Placid on January 16,1947. He was the son of the late Mae Devlin (Lahart) and Hurley Devlin. Matt graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1965. Matt was a proud Lake Placid native, often seen wearing his 'Native' baseball cap around town, especially during tourist season. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed skiing, ice hockey, hiking, fishing, camping and all the other outdoor pleasures his Adirondack Park had to offer. He was the proprietor of the original Arena Grill through the 1980 Winter Olympics, and worked as a carpenter all over the TriLakes area. Those who knew him, will likely recall his fantastic wit and penchant for sarcasm. He is survived by his son: Matthew H. Devlin III and his wife Susan of Waterford, NY; his daughter: Kirsten Cowles and her husband Steve of Oneonta, NY; his brother: Michael Devlin and his wife Laurie of Lake Placid; his sister: Conni Cross and her husband Ben of Lake Placid; three grandchildren: Dariann Mclean of Saranac Lake, Roger Martin of Waterford, NY; Brinley Cowles of Oneonta, NY; four nieces: Kelly Collins of Rockville, MD, Kim Collins of Cortland, NY, Alyssa and Paige Devlin of Lake Placid; and his faithful cat Bundy. Matt was predeceased by his sister Linda Collins and his brother in law Tom Collins of Cortland, NY A time for family and friends to gather and share your favorite stories, fondest memories and prayers will be held Tuesday, August 27th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the M.
