Rouses Point
Glenn M. Nutt, 88, of New Hampshire Road, Plattsburgh, formerly of Rouses Point, NY, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Pine Harbour Assisted Living in Plattsburgh where members of the staff were with him at his side. He was born in Rouses Point, NY July 1, 1923 a son of the late Frank M. and Jessie (Chelius) Nutt.
Following high school, Glenn, along with four of his siblings, enlisted in the armed forces and served during WWII. He was placed in Air Transport Command, as a radio operator and gunner upon a C-47 Dakota airplane in China, Burma, and India theatre of operations. During his military service, Glenn circled the world by a combination of land, sea and air transportation. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946 with a rank of Staff Sergeant.
After the war and his discharge, Glenn assumed the role of Head of Household for his mother and his younger siblings. He was a long time employee of D&H Railroad in both Rouses Point and Plattsburgh, retiring as Chief Clerk following over 35 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 912 in Rouses Point, and a member and former Commander of the V.F.W. Post 1418, Champlain.
"Uncle Glenn", in earlier years, enjoyed playing baseball, and shot many rounds of golf with his friends, at the then 9 hole North Country Golf Club in Rouses Point. He and his buddies were known to have a few cold beers at the club house's then 10th hole, now known as the 19th. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the NCCS boys hockey team play at the Rouses Point Recreation Center on many occasions.
Glenn was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Church Street", having been born in the family home at 52 Church Street, and residing there most of his life, until his recent battle with dementia forced him and his family to look at other living arrangements where Glenn could receive the care he needed. He resided at Pine Harbour Assisted Living in Plattsburgh where he received the highest level of care from all of the staff, who, were more like extended family to Glenn. Most recently, the kind and caring staff at Hospice of the North Country stepped in to assist, during Glenn's final weeks.
Glenn will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his loving family and many friends, which include nieces, nephews and cousins of many generations.
In addition to his parents, Glenn, was preceded in death by his siblings, Frank A. Nutt, Robert C. Nutt, Peter D. Nutt, Laura F. Martin, Grace J. Nutt, Phyllis A. Gokey, and Elizabeth A. Nutt.
