Champlain
Ronald A. Gooley, 89, of Elm Street, Champlain, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Evergreen Valley Nursing Home in Plattsburgh. He was born in Elllenburg April 22, 1924 son of the late Peter and Blanche (Lambert) Gooley.
Following high school, Ronald enlisted with the US Army Air Corps in 1942 and served during WWII. He was discharged in 1946 with a rank of 1st Lieutenant. He worked for Sheridan Iron Works in Champlain for nearly 47 years before his retirement in the 1980's. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3525 in Champlain and was a past member and president of the CCD at St. Mary's Church.
Ronald first love in life was his loving wife, the former Anna M. Lagree who predeceased him on November 2nd of this year. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, fishing and tinkering with electronics. He had built several devices including a color TV and an electronic organ. He was an incredible father, grandfather and great-grandfather and great-great grandfather. His wonderful sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye will be sadly missed by all of his family.
His loving family includes his children, John Gooley and wife Sandy of Milford, OH, Tom Gooley and wife Donna of Champlain, Sally Cleland of Swanton, VT, Larry Gooley and wife Jill of Plattsburgh and Skipp Gooley of Manchester, NH. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Anna, Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Claude and Carl, his sister Betty, and a grandson Scott Gooley.
Calling Hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 19th at M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm Street, Champlain, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 20th at St. Mary's Church, 86 Church St., Champlain, NY with Rev. William Reamer, celebrating the mass.
Full military honors will follow the mass.
Entombment will be in Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens, Route 11, Ellenburg Depot, NY. Contributions in Ronald's memory may be made to the Champlain Fire Department. To share a thought or condolence, please visit www.mbclarkfuneralhome.com.
