Obituary of Carol S. Thompson

CAROL S. THOMPSON, 65 of Main St, Champlain, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at her home. She was born in Montreal Quebec, Dec 24, 1948, the daughter of the late Cyril and Myrtle (Bartlett) Reed. She graduated from Royal George HS in Greenfield Park, Quebec Canada and later sought her Associates degree in accounting from Clinton Community College in Plattsburgh NY. She was employed at FW Myers Brokerage firm in Rouses Point NY and was also self-employed as a Mary Kay beauty consultant. She co-taught an aquacise class at Northeastern Clinton Central HS. She was preceded in death by her loving and caring husband of 30 years, Robert Thompson Sr. (Tom); her brother, Rod Reed; sister Donna Reed; and sister-in-law Louise Blackmon-Brown She is survived by sons, Robert and Michael; sisters Arlene Allen and Sally Reed; brothers Barry and Butch Reed; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of long-time friends. Some of the important facts about Carol include that she was a fantastically social person and a great listener who always seemed to know just what to say to make a person feel better or help make challenging situations more bearable. She liked keeping things fun and light and never missed an opportunity to put a doily or napkin on her head to make others smile. Her loyalty to friends and family, as well as her continued devotion to her husband was truly remarkable. Her greatest pleasure in life was to gather her friends and family together. Whether it was a major event like a family reunion or just a quiet cup of tea in her kitchen, she had the ability to engage people on a variety of levels and make them feel truly comfortable. She held fast to her traditions and would mark the celebration of holidays in familiar ways year by year. She would spend Christmas Eve with friends in Canada and then on New Year's Day cook up a southern meal of ham, black eyed peas, and collard greens as tribute to her husband's southern roots. Even when she was no longer able to eat regularly, she would sneak a fingerful of whipped cream or gravy so she didn't feel like she was "missing out." She was an avid reader - of the newspaper, mysteries, historical accounts and even drugstore romance novels.especially drugstore romance novels. A meticulous record keeper (mostly on the backs of envelopes), she saved every piece of evidence of the accomplishments of her sons and others and was always willing to share them. A five time cancer survivor, she never gave up. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future - even through countless radiation and chemotherapy treatments, X-rays, hospitalizations and pain. Arrangements are entrusted to the MB Clark Funeral Home. Relatives and friends may call from 11 a.m to 12 p.m. Sunday, Jan 26, at MB Clark Funeral Home, 148 Lake St., Rouses Point NY. A remembrance will follow at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. A celebration of Carol's life will follow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the VFW Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1418 located at 600 St. John's Rd. (off Route 11) Champlain NY.
