Obituary of Henry Karl

Henry Karl, age 83, of Lake Placid, NY died peacefully at his home, Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Mr. Karl was born November 16, 1930 in, Geiselhoering, Germany the son of Alois and Krescentc (Lermer) Karl. Henry moved from Germany to New York City in 1956 where he worked as a butcher until 1972. In 1972 he moved to Lake Placid, NY where he was owner and operator of the IGA store on Mill Hill in Lake Placid, NY until his retirement in 2006. Henry loved woodworking, sawing lumber on his saw mill, He enjoyed his afternoon coffee group at McDonald's restaurant, and he had a special place in his heart for the family dog. Henry had said he was the first member of his family to reach 80 years old. He is survived by his wife: Ingrid (Strauss) Karl, of Lake Placid, NY, Four Sons, Andre Karl and his companion Peggy Mousaw of Lake Placid, NY, Brian Grant and his wife April of Potsdam, NY, Michael Grant of Potsdam, NY and Shawn Grant and his wife Jennifer of Potsdam, NY. He is also survived by one brother, Hans Karl of Denville, NJ; one sister, Rosie Huber of Germany and 5 grandchildren, Trevor, Christina, Rachel, Ashley and Schuyler. Henry was predeceased by his daughter Anita in 2004, two brothers, Alois and Ludwig and one sister, Frieda. Calling Hours will be held Sunday February 23rd from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 24th at Saint Agnes Catholic Church, Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, NY with Father John Yonkovig officiating. Burial will follow in North Elba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tri Lakes Humane Society.
