Nelly de Greef-Mirovsky, 88, of Plattsburgh, NY, and previously of North Port, FL, passed away peacefully, Monday, May 7, 2012 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, following a decade-long coping with Alzheimer Disease.
Born to the late Gerrit and Jean de Greef in Holland on September 10, 1923, between the Word Wars, Nelly, was a civilian survivor of the 1944 Battle of Arnhem.
She bore a son, Alex, one month before this battle and lost her spouse in the final months of the war in Europe.
Working as a secretary and living as a single mother in the early 1950s she decided to follow her brother, Carl, and immigrated to Montreal and with her son made a life there. Nelly remarried in 1963 to Emil Mirovsky and she and her husband moved to Seattle, Washington. They retired in the early 1980s to Southwest Florida. Eleven years after her husband's passing in 1996, Nelly moved to Plattsburgh N.Y. to be closer to her family in the North Country and in Montreal.
A memorial service, by invitation, will be held privately and at the convenience of Nelly's family at M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 148 Lake St., Rouses Point, NY with Rev. Bruce Dodd, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal, Canada. Donations in Nelly's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association NortheastChapter, 4 Pine West Plaza Suite 405 Albany, NY 12205.
