I am so sorry to hear about George. Although I hadn't seen him in years, I thought about him from time to time and the fun we had together back in the 70s.
George was a good friend, and obviously grew to be a good man. I am so sorry to the family for your loss. It was too soon!

My heart goes out to Dr. and Mrs. Varga, Francis, Paul, Vicky and Thomas. 1971 may have been the last time since I saw all of you. I have wonderful memories of 4th of July get togethers. Your family was always so kind and lots of fun to be around. I remember George as being very kind, charming and witty. Like my daughter when she was a child, George had that special quality, the "it factor" and was very comfortable in his own skin. (I remember this because for whatever reason, I grew up angst-ridden). It's wonderful that he had such a full life, but all the more devastating that it was taken away too early. I don't know if it is ever possible to get over the loss of loved ones. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless.

I met George when we were both seniors at Middlebury, and we stayed in touch for a few years after graduation. George was a caring friend and an attentive listener. We had many chats about the world, which we continued in correspondence after college. George was a wonderful commentator. His social concerns and early career priorities, were 30 years ahead of their time.
I remember George's cheerful, quiet demeanor and deadpan humor. He had a sophisticated wit. I remember his inviting me to join him in trying out for the US Bobsled Team ( I backed out). I remember consoling him when Reagan was elected President. I remember how often he spoke of his family back in Lake Placid.
My prayers for comfort to his family.

Even though I had not seen George in over 10 years, the light he brought to this work shone very bright on Saturday at his service and in his obituary and picture with that great smile. Wish I would have known you were back in LP, George...we all need friends! Peace to you and prayers of comfort to your great family! Keep smiling, George!

To all of George's family: I know there are no words available that adequately express your loss. I had only seen George a couple of times since High School but he was always the kind, considerate, thoughtful and funny person that I remembered from school.
George: A piece of you will always remain here in the lives you touched.

George spent Thanksgiving with us one year. He was a vegetarian at the time but ate a large plate of turkey w gravy anyway! He was so passionate about life, his friends, his humanitarian work, his pets, and nature. He was genuine and sincere. We admired him for his self-less efforts to help others.

I haven't seen George since HS graduation at Placid, and yet his smile and wit come to me like it was yesterday. I regret writing this as an obituary candle, and not being able to tell him in person, "George, you kept everyone sane with your easy going way and acceptance of everybody's idiosyncrasies. Thank you." But I think you know, George. I read the beautiful obituary, and it tells me the story of someone who lived his life fully and honestly, without regrets. May we all have a story so rich in meaning. My heartfelt prayers and sympathy to you all, his loving family and friends. Marygrace
