Eugenia (Mama) Hadjis, 101, of 85 Acorn Street, Lake Placid, N.Y., passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. Eugenia was born on January 29, 1913 in Schimattari, Viotia, Greece. She was the daughter of Dimitrios and Sirmo Salemi. She was married to her late husband, James Hadjis on April 7, 1935 at the Holy Church of St. George and St. Demitrios in New York City. After they were married, Eugenia moved to Lake Placid with her husband where he owned and operated the LeBourget Restaurant on Main Street. Both she and her late husband operated the LeBourget Restaurant for many years and in 1957 they opened their second restaurant, the Charcoal Pit, on Saranac Avenue. Eugenia, her husband, and their three children operated the Charcoal Pit as a family business until her husband passed away on December 18, 1976. After the death of her husband, Eugenia remained active in the family business for several more years eventually becoming less active until the business was sold in 2009, after 51 years of continuous operation. She is survived by her son Leo and his wife, Effrosini, and their daughter Angela Tzamourinis, her husband Yannis and their two children Sage and Jade, of Ellicott, MD; her son Thomas, of Lake Placid, NY, his three daughters, Christina Caballero and her husband Pascal and their daughter, Camille of Delmar, NY; Nini Hadjis, of Delmar, NY; Lollie Hannan and her husband Robert, and their son Patrick of Feura Bush, N.Y. and Patrick's brother Robbie, of Duanesburg, NY; her daughter Maria Botoulas and her husband, Peter of Lake Placid, NY, and their son George and his wife Claudia, and children Peter, Rachel, Elena, and Gabriela, of Cleveland, OH; nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her great-grandson, James Joseph Hannan, on May 7, 2003. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
