Obituary of Maria M. Ulla-Britt Libre

Maria M. Uulla-Britt Libre of Lake Placid, NY died at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY on June 20, 2012, of complications from blood clots to her lungs. She passed awat peacefully, surrounded by her entire family. She was a gracious and noble lady.
She was born on July 17, 1940, in Boras, Sweden, where she attended primary and secondary school. She then attended University of Heidelberg in Germanyand married Captain Eugene P. Libre, M.D., On May 20, 1966, in Goppingen, Germany, the headquarters of the 4th Armored Division. She came to the United States together with her husband in 1961.
Maria and Eugene lived in the Washington, D. C. area for 45 years where they raised theit five children. In 1975 they built a vacation home in Lake Placid, NY. Maria loved the many outdoor opportunities the Adirondack's offer. Upon her husband's retirement from medical practice they moved to Lake Placid full time.
Of Maria's many passions- gardening, cooking, tennis and golf- She was most proud having taught all five of her children fluent Swedish. She spoke lovingly to her 13 grandchildren in Swedish. She was the person (the "god mother") we all turned to for life's major decisions. She will be missed by us all everyday. We love you, Mami.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Eugene Peter Libre, M.D., of 51 years; and her five children, who are immensely grateful for her impeccable guidance: Peter E. Libre, M.D., of Norwalk, CT (Jennifer Ginsberg: Eloise, Alexander, Margo, and Max), Eric A. Libre, M.D., of Cabin John, MD (Elisa De Angelis, M.D., Christina, Michael, and Matthew), Kenneth P. Libre, M.D., of Alta, UT (Carolyn Anctil, M.D.: Ulla-Britt, and Fletcher), Nina Schoeb of Charlottsville, VA (John Schoeb, DDS: Brittany, Jack , and Courtney) and John P. Libre of Brooklyn, NY (Liz Libre: Griffin). She is also survived by three loving sisters and brothers-in-law, and nany nieces and nephews in Sweden, as well as legions of friends.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, June 23rd at 9:30 AM at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid, NY. Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, Joy to the Children, 17 Algonquin Drive, Lake Placid, NT 12946. The M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY is in charge of arrangements.
