Obituary of Edward Henry Fitzgerald

Edward H. Fitzgerald, 73, of Peachwood Way, Lake Placid, NY passed away Friday, July 4, 2014 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY. He was born in Lake Placid, NY April 4, 1941 the son of Timothy and Margaret (Lacy) Fitzgerald. He was a graduate of Lake Placid, High School, Class of 1960 and earned his Associates Degree in Business at Albany Business School. Ed was a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969. Ed was a proud member of the American Legion, Post 326, Lake Placid, NY and served as Post Commander in 2011. He had worked various jobs in Lake Placid, NY to include working at the Lake Placid Club, ORDA and also as a butcher, he retired from the Mirror Lake Inn in 2004. Ed was active in the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corp. He was troop leader of the Lake Placid Boy Scouts, Troop 10 and was proud to have earned the Order of Arrow award. He loved wood carving, and also enjoyed golf, fishing and camping. Ed is survived by his wife Ann E. (Cayea) Fitzgerald of Lake Placid, NY; one son, Conan Fitzgerald and his wife Sarah and their son Sean of Saranac Lake, NY; three brothers, Tim Fitzgerald of Jay, NY, James Fitzgerald and his companion Anne Muncy of Round Rock, TX, and John Fitzgerald and his wife Olympia of Sherman, CT. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Mary Cayea of Lake Placid, NY; one brother-in-law, Theodore Cayea and his wife Fayne of Essex Junction, VT, his faithful cat Lucky and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Timothy and Margaret and his father-in-law Theodore Cayea. Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 6th from 2:00 pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm with an American Legion Prayer Service at 8:30pm followed by a Bible Vigil Service at 8:45pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 7th at 10:00am at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid, Rev. Patrick O'Reilly will officiate. Cremation will follow. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery at a later date.
