Champlain
Richard A. Patenaude, 70, of Eden Ln., passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 23, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Burlington, VT April 26, 1942 a son of the late Robert F. and Rita (Prue) Patenaude.
Richard was raised in Winooski, VT where he attended local schools. Following high school, he enlisted with the US ARMY and served a 21 year career, retiring in 1979. During his time in the Army, he earned his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Following his discharge, Richard was employed as a Corrections Officer with Altona Correctional Facility, retiring from there in 2000.
He married the former Heather Bender of Montreal on May 25, 1963. Following their marriage, Richard was stationed in California, and the family moved to several bases in the United States and Europe before settling in Champlain following his retirement from the Army. Richard was a member of the V.F.W. Post#1418 in Champlain, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and was a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Champlain.
His loving family includes his children, Mark R. Patenaude of Champlain and Trina L. Martin and husband Granville Martin, of Stamford, CT, his grandchildren, Ryan Hickey, John Patenaude, Christopher Patenaude, Colin Hickey, Cody Patenaude, Chloe Martin and James G. Martin, III, a sister Ruth Sumia of Natick, MA, and a brother William "Bill" Patenaude and wife Jan of Laurel, MT. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Heather Patenaude in October, 2002.
Calling Hours will from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Monday, June 25, 2012 at M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm St., Champlain, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM on Monday at St. Mary's Church, 86 Church St., Champlain, with Rev. James Delbel, pastor, celebrating the mass.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery on Prospect Street. Contributions in Richard's memory may be made to the V.F.W. Post 1418 in Champlain.
