Joan D. Peacock, 92, of Lake Placid, NY passed away peacefully Sunday, September 14, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Peacock was born May 24, 1922 in Bronx, NY the daughter of Felix and Constance (Meehan) Dixon. Joan was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1940 and a graduate of Kathryn Gibbs Business School in 1942. She married William E. Rascoe in 1948, he passed away in 1980. She married Robert J. Peacock in 1985, he passed away in 1998. She worked as school clerk at Lake Placid High School, retiring in 1984. Joan was inducted into the Lake Placid, Hall of Fame in 2008 for her accomplishments and her service to the community. She was a member of the Lake Placid High School Board of Education, a trustee on the Lake Placid Village Board and while on the board she served as commissioner of the Lake Placid Police Dept. and the Lake Placid Fire Dept., she was First Lady of Lake Placid Village for 9 years, she was Executive Committee Hostess for the NYS Conference of Mayors, a lifelong member and trustee of St. Agnes Church, president of St. Agnes Priest Council, president of St. Agnes School Board, chairman of St. Agnes Centennial Celebration, president of Lake Placid Nursing Scholarship Foundation, president of the Lake Placid Alumni Association, president of the North Elba Historical Society, president of Essex County Cancer Society, president of North Elba Republican Woman, chairman of Essex County Daffodil Program, chairman of Essex County March of Dimes, co-chairman of Ecumenical Charity Program, co-chairman of Kate Smith Memorial Celebration, co-chairman of Lake Placid Central School Citizen's Advisory Committee, founder and co-chairman 4th of July "People's Parade", Queen of Lake Placid, 62nd Skating Coronation and a columnist and hockey reporter for the Lake Placid News and Adirondack Daily Enterprise. Joan is survived by five children, Constance G. Rascoe of Lake Placid, NY, William T. Rascoe of West Palm Beach, FL, Charles G. Rascoe of Lake Placid, NY, Thomas D. Rascoe and his wife Anne of Queensbury, NY, and Patricia J. Rascoe of Lake Placid, NY and a granddaughter Kathryn Joan Rascoe. She is also survived by four step-children, Robert T. Peacock and his wife MarieLine of Lake Placid, NY, Gregory L. Peacock of Lake Placid, NY, Gary L. Peacock and his companion Jamie White of Queensbury, NY, and Nancy L. Peacock of Lake Placid, NY; one sister-in-law Nancee Dixon, several nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Elway. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Felix A. and Constance M. Dixon; two brothers, Thomas M Dixon amd John F. Dixon; her step-father, Curtis P. Stevens; and two cousins John J. Fox and Blanche Nesbitt. Calling Hours will be held Wednesday, September 17th from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 18th at 10:30 AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lake Placid, NY. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery. Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. The family suggests donations in memory of Joan D. Peacock can be made to Lake Placid Vol. Fire Department or to Ecumenical Charity Program.
