Bruce Benjamin Hare, 84, a resident of Wilmington, NY passed away on Tuesday November 11, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family with the help of Hospice. Bruce was born on September 26, 1930 in the town of Lake Placid to Clarence V. and Violet (Bruce) Hare who are both deceased. Bruce is survived by his wife of 61yrs, Helen Joyce (Peck) Hare. They married November 21, 1953 in Wilmington. Two daughters and son-in-laws, Trixie (Paul) Whalley and Stacey (Henry) Lawrence all of Wilmington. 6 Grandchildren, Curtis (Keria) Hare, Brandon Whalley, Ryan (GF-Shawntel Goff) Lawrence, Cory Lawrence, Brianna Lawrence, and AJ Whalley. Three great grandchildren, Naveya Hare, Jayden Lawrence, and Aaliyah Lawrence all from Wilmington. He is survived by a sister-in-law Virginia (Timothy) Devins of Wilmington, whom he and his wife raised as one of their own. He is survived by many in-laws, nieces and nephews on his wife's side whom love him very dearly. Bruce is survived by three brothers and three sisters. George (Donna) Hare of Clifton Park, Richard Hare of Lake Placid, Tom (Gloria) Hare of Tupper Lake, Joyce (Leon) Planty of Lake Placid, Judy Bova of Elizabethtown, and Mary Jane Lawrence of Lake Placid. He is survived by many nieces and nephews from his side whom love him dearly. He is predeceased by one brother and two sisters, Clarence Hare JR., Betty Levitt, and Connie Bola. Bruce served in the Army as a Private First Class from Feb. 5, 1948 to Feb. 16, 1950. He attended The Engineer School in Fort Belvoir, VA. He learned his trade as an electrician while serving with the Army. Bruce was a volunteer fireman in The Wilmington Fire Department from April 18, 1955 to Feb. 26, 1964. During the 8yrs and 10 months as a volunteer he served for a few years as Fire Chief and he enjoyed his time as a volunteer. Bruce served as a board member on the Wilmington Town Board for one term. Bruce retired on September 30, 1992 from Whiteface Mountain after years of being the head electrician for the mountain. If a lift stopped sure enough he was there to help get it going again. After retirement Bruce spent a lot of his time fishing, visiting friends, helping on little electrical jobs here and there, and most importantly caring and being with his family. Bruce enjoyed watching his family grow. Calling hours will be held Friday November 14th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with an American Legion Prayer Service at 7:30 pm at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY . A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 15th at 1:00 pm at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY. Burial will follow at the Bonnie view Cemetery in Wilmington, NY. There will be a reception following the burial at the Calvary Baptist Church in Wilmington, NY.
