Obituary of George William Sullivan

George William Sullivan, age 87, a resident of Lake Placid, NY and The Villages, FL, passed away Friday, January 2, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. Mr. Sullivan was born March 24,1927 in Potsdam, NY, the son of Leo L. Sullivan and Anna (Hughes) Sullivan. He married Kathlyn McCarthy on August 2, 1948 and they enjoyed 66 years of marriage. George graduated from Niagara University and did post graduate work at St Lawrence University, the University of Vermont, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Potsdam and the National Science Foundation. Mr. Sullivan retired as an administrator and teacher from the Parishville, NY school system. He was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association. George also served his communities and church in many capacities. He was a New York State Volunteer Fireman and Fire Chief, he was a member of the Elks and Lion Clubs, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus fourth degree, he was a member of the St. Vincent's de Paul Society and most recently he was professed as a member of the Secular Order of Franciscans. George was a great husband, father and friend and enjoyed summers on the lake, hunting, golf and extensive international travel including visits to six of the seven continents. He is survived by his wife, Kathlyn (McCarthy) Sullivan of Lake Placid, NY and the Villages, Fla, three sons; Patrick and (daughter in-law Betty) of Rochester, NY, Michael and (daughter in-law Diane) of Colorado Springs, Co, Christopher and (daughter in-law Marlies) of Colorado Springs, Co, Rochester, NY and Lake Placid, NY and daughter Ann Charlebois and (son in-law Daniel) of Canton , NY. He was predeceased by daughter, Kathlyn Felix of Norwood, NY. The Sullivan's have seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Agnes Church, Lake Placid, NY, followed by internment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Potsdam, NY at a later date to be announced.
