Please share a memory of Norma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norma P. "Noni" Martin, 89, formerly of Champlain, most recently of Meadowbrook Health Care Facility, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh with her family by her side. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, May 7, 1925 daughter of the late Francis and Kathleen (McCallum) Peldington. Norma was a longtime resident of Champlain and worked as a Supervisor for McConnell's in Champlain and was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Champlain, now in Rouses Point. She married Michael A. Martin on March 15, 1952 at St. Brendan Church in Rosemount, Montreal, Quebec. He predeceased her on December 3, 2009. Norma's husband, children, and grandchildren enjoyed spending time with "Auntie Noni's" large extended family from Montral, Quebec, Hamilton, Ontario, Vancouver, British Columbia, and other parts of Canada. "Noni" fondly loved spending summer days lakeside at the "Country" watching generations of her loved ones revel in the warm summer sun on the northern shores of Missisquoi Bay in Venice-in-Quebec. She cherished the time spent there swapping stories with the relatives, and watching others sunbathing, boating, swimming, fishing, and especially gathering the whole clan for her world-famous picnic feasts. "Noni's" flare for creating both savory and sweet delights was legendary. Her original macaroni salad and her magazine-worthy lemon meringue pie were cherished treats among family and friends. Beyond that, her one-of-a-kind meatloaf recipe was so extraordinary that it made the menu of regularly served cuisine at SUNY Canton aptly called "Mother Martin's Meatloaf". In addition to her parents and her husband, Norma was predeceased by her sister Frances Lancto. Her loving family includes her children, Kathleen Borrie and her husband Andy of Champlain, Wayne Martin of Bay St. Louis Miss., Steven Martin and his wife Lorraine of Chazy Lake, and Robert Martin and his companion Denise Matton of Champlain, and her grandchildren, Jason Borrie, Fallon Borrie, Ashley Martin, Gina Martin, Veronica Martin, Dakota Martin, Piper Martin, Bradley Martin and Amanda Gooley and husband, Brandon. Several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. The family wishes to thank the staff at Meadowbrook Health Care Facility and CVPH Medical Center for their loving care. At Norma's request, calling hours and funeral services will be private for her family. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Church Street, Champlain. Arrangements are in the care of M.B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm Street, Champlain, NY 12919.
