Betty Jo White, age 78, of Lake Placid, NY, died suddenly at her home on Friday, May 1, 2015. She was born on December 13, 1936 in Dover, FL, the daughter of Robert J. Ebeling and Helen Marie (Rishel) Dukes. She is survived by her son, Charles C. "Chuck" White of Murrells Inlet, SC; and two daughters, Cheri Fortune and husband, Frederick "FJ" Fortune of Lake Placid, NY, and Christina Carlson and husband, Olaf Carlson of Lake Placid, NY. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Ebeling of Ocala, FL; and two sisters, Patricia Ball and husband, Fred Ball of Canton, GA, and Sharon Harrell of Winter Haven, FL. She was a loving grandmother to grandchildren, Tyler Daby, Kelsey White, Kalie White, Tyler Fortune, Teagan Fortune, Elizabeth Fortune, Grace Carlson, Alida Carlson, Jesse Carlson, Elijah Carlson, Joseph Carlson and great-grandchild, Adrianna White. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles F. White, her sister, Margaret "Peggy" Denis and her brother, Robert "Butch" Ebeling Jr. Betty had a rich history filled with many lively stories. She spent her early years working in several historic American hotels, including the Lake Placid Club. She also worked at Howard Johnson's Restaurant, in different retail stores in Lake Placid and later as a homemaker. She was most happy when she was spending time with her family, gardening or hunting for treasures at garage sales. She missed her calling to be an architect since she almost always had a building project in progress or was designing one on paper. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 7th from 5pm to 7pm at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9am on Friday, May 8th at the M.B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home with Father Soos officiating. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for spiritual bouquets of prayers, especially in the form of offering a Catholic Mass for the repose of her soul.
