Obituary of Bettie L. Murphy

Bettie L. Murphy, age 86, of Lake Placid, NY passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at AMC-Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, NY. Bettie was born July 21, 1926 in Au Sable Forks, NY. She was the daughter of the late Sidney and Theresa (Carpenter) Estes. She was married to Edward J. Murphy, Jr. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid, NY April 22, 1950. Mr. Murphy died November 19, 2001. She graduated nurses training in 1946 from Champlain Valley Hospital (CVPH), as a registered nurse. Bettie & Ed moved to Rochester, NY where she worked at Genesee Hospital. Later she became a private duty nurse. Bettie loved kids, music, books, dancing, cocktail hours and traveling. In 1983 they returned to the North Country where they made their home in Lake Placid. She volunteered at The Bookstore Plus and at the Uihlein Mercy Center gift shop. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Tom Dooley, Lake Placid as well as a member of the Garden Club of Lake Placid. She is survived by two brothers and two sisters. Gerald Estes of Lake Placid, NY , Rodney Estes and his wife Alberta of Peru, NY, Beatrice Fressie and her husband Frank of Rutland, VT and Celia Stephenson and her husband Paul (Nick) of Wilmington, NY. Four sons and a daughter; Edward J. Murphy III and his wife Eileen of Winter Haven, FL, James Murphy of Rochester, NY, Michael Murphy and his wife Cathy Jo of Avon, NY, and Thomas Murphy and his wife Donna of Fairport, NY, Mary Murphy and her partner Gloria West of Peru, NY; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to give special thanks to her extended family, the caregivers at Uihlein Mercy Center. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to your favorite charity. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 11th at 10:00 AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid, NY. Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Lake Placid, NY at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are in care of the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, NY 12946.
