Obituary of Robert Guay
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert "Bob" Clement Guay, 78, died at CVPH hospital October 1, 2015.
He was born in Champlain on June 30, 1937, the son of Bernard and Lucille Guay. He graduated from Champlain Central School and worked for 29 years at Sheridan/Harris Graphics, serving 11 years in leadership positions in the International Association of Machinists union. In addition to his part-time work as an electrician, he later worked as a bus driver for Northeastern Clinton Central School. He served 15 years in leadership roles for the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Sea Scouts, spent many years volunteering at St. Mary's Academy and their annual bazaar, and served on the board of directors for the Rouses Point Senior Housing Development Fund.
But these words only give a glimpse to the character he carried. A hard-working man of integrity, forthrightness, and jubilance, he always had the joke of the crowd and could find a reason to make one smile. This was a man who lived life to the fullest, loved his family with great passion, and took pride in referring to his homeland as "God's country." Although he is no longer with us, his spirit will live on in our hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Virginia Guay of Rouses Point; son Terrence Guay, wife Pattie, and children Laura and Nathan of State College, PA; Wayne Guay and wife Eileen Potash of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren Jewely Guay of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Haley Guay of State College, PA, and Robert Guay of Pinetops, NC; and great-grand-daughter Enola Guay of Roanoke Rapids, NC. He was predeceased by his parents and son Neil Guay. Other survivors include siblings: Theresa Venne of Plattsburght, NY; Bernadette Halstead and husband Robert of Peru, NY; Frank Guay and wife Sue of Plattsburgh, NY, and Mary Anne Coopy and husband Bill of Remsen, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 11:00 am on Monday, October 5 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Rouses Point. There will not be a wake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rouses Point Rescue Squad.
