Obituary of William Gary Bliss

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, William "Gary" Bliss, 64, was called home to be with Jesus. Gary was born in Lake Placid on November 29, 1950, the son of Earl and Violet Bliss. Gary grew up an active member of the Lake Placid community. He played football, baseball and hockey for the Lake Placid Blue Bombers, and later for SUNY Oswego, where he earned his undergraduate degree. Gary was the Lake Placid Winter Carnival King in 1968 and went on to teach at his high school alma mater after earning his Master's in Education from SUNY Plattsburgh. In 1980, Gary left teaching to work during Lake Placid's Winter Olympics. In 1986, Gary married the love of his life, his beautiful wife Kathi, and they were blessed to have 29 wonderful years together. Together, they have two children, Kinnon and Joshua, the pride, joy, and loves of his life. His family is what he lived for. Gary was a skilled carpenter and woodworker. He spent his time after the Olympics building Adirondack camps, hand crafting furniture for his home, and later care-taking for a beautiful camp on Lake Placid . He loved the outdoors, hunting, cross country skiing, walking his dogs in the woods, and spending time in God's creation. He loved a good steak and a giant bowl of ice cream. He loved Bruce Springsteen's music and going to Florida to get a tan. Most important, Gary loved Jesus, his family, and his friends. Gary touched the lives of so many people. He was a great encourager with a servant's heart. He was a selfless husband, the world's greatest father, a doting grandfather, "G-Pop", and a loyal friend. Gary's legacy will live on through his wife Kathi, his daughter Kinnon Appleton, her husband James and their sweet baby girl June Violet, his son Joshua and his wife Emily, his fur babies Gibson, Wilson and Shelby, his brothers Brian and David Bliss and their families, and his faithful friends and church family. Gary's family rests in the promise that he is with God in glory, and until they are reunited with him, he will be greatly and deeply missed. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Gary's honor on Monday, October 12 at 11:00 am at the Lake Placid Baptist Church, 2253 Saranac Ave, Lake Placid, NY. The family is gratefully accepting funeral donations in lieu of flowers. The M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY is in charge of arrangements.
