Obituary of Dorice M. Torrance

Dorice M. Torrance, age 90, of Lake Placid, NY passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at UVM Health Network/CVPH Medical Center of Plattsburgh, NY. Mrs. Torrance was born February 24, 1925 in Lake Placid, NY. She was the daughter of Guy G. and Alta I. (Taylor) Wescott. She married Loren W. Torrance April 23, 1951. Loren predeceased her in 1990. She was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1943. In her early years Dorice had worked as a telephone operator at the Lake Placid Club. She was also employed by Gilbane Building Company the general contractor for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. She had worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Munyan, Dr. Hook and Dr. Weeks. She is survived by two daughters, Alta Dostal and her husband Arthur of Easthampton, MA and Carol Hoffman and her husband Doug of Lake Placid, NY; two sons, Arti Torrance of Lake Placid, NY and Loren W. Torrance, Jr. and his wife Laurie of Marietta, NY; two sisters, Alta Klimmer of TN and Mary Merrill of Lake Placid, NY; one brother, Alton Wescott and his wife Sheila of Lake Placid, NY; and one sister in law Ruth Wescott of Lake Placid, NY. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents, Guy G. and Alta I. Wescott; her husband, Loren Torrance; her son, Ward Wilbur; two brothers, Guy Wescott and Robert Wescott; and two sisters, Joyce Hill and Shirley Seney. Calling hours will be held Sunday, February 21st from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the M. B. Clark, Inc. funeral home in Lake Placid, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid on Sunday, February 21st at 1:00 PM. Rev. John Martin will officiate. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lake Placid Vol. Fire Dept. in her memory.
