Obituary of Hua Shi Davis
Please share a memory of Hua to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LAKE PLACID, NY
Hua Davis, a resident of Wilmington, DE, our beloved mother, passed suddenly March 4th, 2016 during a hiking trip in the Adirondacks in upstate New York. An avid, passionate hiker, she died doing what she loved doing-hiking and experiencing the beauty of nature. We will miss her love, companionship, and devotion to our family.
Born and raised in China, Hua came to the US in her mid 40's to receive better education and seek better opportunities. She worked her way up from cleaner, nurse assistant, LPN, and then completed her BS in Nursing from University of Delaware. She then enrolled at Thomas Jefferson Medical College and earned her Master of Nursing/Clinical Nurse Practioner degree and became a practicing licensed Adult Care practitioner. At the age of 61, Hua was accepted to medical school, her lifetime goal, and was due to start her first semester this summer.
People who knew Hua knew her for her larger than life persona. She was a caring, compassionate person, yet she was a fierce competitor, tenacious and focused on her goals . When Mom took an interest in hiking, she achieved legendary status for her feats of sheer will. She earned recognition for completing hikes to 46 peaks in one winter in the Adirondacks, 36 peaks in one season in the Catskills, and 6 peaks in the Saranac Lake, NY region in one day. As with hiking, when her life encountered obstacles, she simply would not accept defeat, but, with persistence, she would find a path to her goal. Mom always loved the mountains, she often talked about living in the mountains. We take comfort in our hearts knowing she has forever joined the mountains she loved
She left behind a daughter, Echo, a granddaughter, Norina, and her son-in-law Steve, from Philadelphia.
