Obituary of Burton S. Merchant

Merchant Burton S. Merchant, 70, of Dixon Point Road, Plattsburgh, formerly of Rouses Point, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at UVM Health Network at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY January 5, 1946, a son of the late Carl and Theresa (Dragoon) Merchant. Following his graduation from Champlain High School in 1962, Burton enlisted with the US Army and served during the Vietnam War era as a 1st Air Calvary Division, Corporal. He then worked for many years for the IBEW as a Skilled Electrician. His loving family includes his son, Matthew Merchant of Flagstaff, AZ, his siblings Terry Merchant and wife, Kathie of Colchester, VT, Steve Merchant and wife, Sue of Rouses Point, and Mary Bechard and husband, Dan of Champlain, her son-in-law, Christopher Lloyd of Flagstaff, AZ, and his grandchildren, Rileigh, Jacob, Savannah, Alexandria, Sophia and Gabriel. In addition to his parents, Burton was predeceased by his daughter, Melissa Pauline Merchant Lloyd. A calling hour will be held on Friday, March 25th, 2016 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick's Church, 138 Lake Street in Rouses Point, NY. A funeral service will follow the calling hour at the church at 10:00 A.M. with Msgr. Dennis Duprey officiating. Interment will be at a later date in St. Patrick's cemetery.
