Obituary of Kenneth Francis Desourdy

Kenneth F. Desourdy, 82, of Balsam Street Lake Placid, NY passed away Sunday May 29th, 2016 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid. He was born in Lake Placid, NY November 23rd, 1933, the son of Irvin and Alice (Pelkey) Desourdy. Kenny was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, class of 1953. He worked as Meat Manager for the Grand Union Corporation in both Lake Placid and Saranac Lake NY for over 40 years, retiring in 1993. He married Lynda Sears on September 20th, 1969 at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid, NY. He was a dedicated volunteer at Uihlein Living Center delivering mail daily to residents and aiding in their care and transportation between activities. He was an active volunteer for the Girl Scouts and was well known as "The Cookie Man." He received his 25 year pin with the Girl Scouts of America on May 24th, 2016. He loved watching hockey and golf. He loved spending time with his family, traveling to visit relatives and was always there for anyone who needed him. He is survived by his wife, Lynda of Lake Placid, NY; two daughters and their spouses, Amy Carter and her husband Mark of Saranac Lake, NY and Darci Beiras, her husband Michael and their son, Kenneth; one son, Kenneth B."Barry" Whitney and his wife Deborah also of Saranac Lake, NY; sister-in-law Peggy Brockway of Lake Placid, NY, brother-in-law Edwin Baker and a very special nephew Dexter Baker of Athol, NY; mother-in-law, Gertrude Sears of Lake Placid, and several close nieces and nephews. He also leaves his couch companion Chloe. Kenny was predeceased by four brothers, Donald, Harold, Joseph, and Robert and three sisters, Nora Gonyea, Dorothy Desourdy, and Marion Loadwick; one brother-in-law Larry Brockway; one sister-in-law Susan Baker; and his father-in-law Dexter Sears, Jr. Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 2nd from 4 pm to 8 pm at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY. Service will be held at St. Eustace Church in Lake Placid, NY on Friday, June 3rd at 11 am with the Reverend David Ousley officiating. Burial will follow at the North Elba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.
