David W. Magurk, 77, of Lake Placid, passed away Thursday June 9, 2016 after a brief illness. He was born on May 17, 1939 in New York City. He was the son of Donald K. Magurk and Dorothy (Ruhland) Magurk and is survived by his younger brother Donald C. Magurk.
He received a Degree in Civil Engineering in 1965 from the University of Missouri at Rolla. He then went on to work for Shell Oil Company in Spokane, WA. From there he moved to Randolph, VT to work for the engineering firm Dubois and King, before moving to Lake Placid in 1973, where he started his own business, Magurk Engineering. Dave worked on many Olympic projects and venues for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games, including Mt. Van Hovenburg, the Speed Skating Oval and the Ski Jumping Complex. In 1985 Dave moved to Canton, NY where he managed an engineering office for the Sear Brown Group. Before returning to Lake Placid, Dave moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to work as an Engineering Advisor for the 2002 Winter Olympics. After returning to Lake Placid, Dave reopened his Engineering Business, which operated until December 2015. Dave was also active coaching hockey and baseball in his younger years, and enjoyed playing golf, when he could find his ball!
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Doris V. Magurk, and four sons and daughters in law; David J. Magurk and Jill E. Magurk; Kevin S. Magurk and Mona M. Magurk; Michael S. Magurk and Kimberly S. Newman; Eric K. Magurk. Dave is also survived by four grandchildren: Owen, Ali, Jordan and Grace Magurk. He is also survived by his brother Donald C. Magurk and his wife Donna Magurk.
