Obituary of David Kirk Grant

David Kirk Grant, 61, of Lake Placid died on July 21 while mountain climbing in Colorado. Dave was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1955 and spent his childhood in Barrington, Rhode Island. Although he developed a deep appreciation for Rhode Island's natural beauty, including becoming an avid SCUBA diver, Dave's true passion became mountain climbing in the Adirondacks during his family's frequent vacations here. Dave graduated from the University of Wyoming and later Brown University's special program for computer science. He eventually moved to Lake Placid to pursue a wide-ranging career including working in the Lake Placid school system, and as an information technology consultant, all the while following a love for mountain climbing that drew him to the High Peaks and summits throughout Eastern and Western states during all months of the year. Throughout the many years he called Lake Placid home, Dave was known for his gentleness and kindness to others, including his joining with the St. Eustace Church mission to the Dominican Republic, and his serving as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician for the Village of Lake Placid. David was the son of Cynthia (Kirk) and the late Robert E. Grant, Sr. He is survived by his son, David, Jr. and his wife Marya of Brownfield, Maine, and his two brothers James, and Robert (Patricia) of Lake Placid. He also leaves his former wife, Julie, and their four beautiful grandchildren Noah, Greta, Azalea, and Judah. He will also be missed by his nieces, Elizabeth and Caroline and his nephew, Charlie Grant. There are no calling hours or services in Lake Placid, NY. The M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will take place in Barrington, Rhode Island. Donations in Dave's memory may be made to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society.
