Obituary of Darriel Roger Demers

Darriel R. Demers, 72 of Champlain, NY passed away peacefully Thursday, December 22nd, 2016 at the Fletcher Allen Healthcare Facility in Burlington, VT after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Hemmingford, QC on September 3rd, 1944, the son of Lionel and Mabel (Tallman) Demers. Darriel served honorably in the United States Army from 1968 to 1974. Upon discharge from the U.S. Army he worked at the Champlain Laundry for 34 years. After the closing of the Champlain Laundry, Darriel was employed by the Northeastern Clinton Central School District as a custodian in the Rouses Point Elementary School for 11 years. He truly loved his job and took great joy and pride in working with the teachers and students each day. Darriel is predeceased by his parents, a brother, Stephen and infant grandsons, Matthieu Moran and Griffon Chenevert. Darriel is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joyce (Babbie) Demers, five daughters, Donna (Billy) Leduc, and their children Travis, Angela, Max and Linda; Juanita Munoz and her daughter Ashley; Gail (Mike) Tacy and their children Eric (Samantha) and Alexis; Nicole (Craig) Chenevert and daughter Lily; Michele (Larry Burl) DeCoste and their children Ryleigh and Gage. Last, but not least his beloved cat and sidekick Ivy Rose. He is also survived by brothers: Leo, George (Tina), Clifford (Betty), Wayne, Richard and sisters; Norma, Donna (Royce) and Tina. There will no calling hours. Services will be held at St. Mary's Church in Champlain on Wednesday, December 28th at 11:00 am. A gathering will follow at the Knights of Columbus in Champlain. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Darriel's memory to the Champlain EMS or The Hope Lodge in Burlington, VT.
