In Loving Memory Jonathan P. MacAbee Jonathan MacAbee died peacefully at the age of 60 on March 9, 2017 in his beloved community of the Adirondacks. Jon was born on September 9, 1956 in Montreal, Canada to his parents, Frederick John MacAbee and Shirley (formerly MacAbee) Clark of Malone, NY. He graduated from the State University of New York at Potsdam in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in biology. He continued his education over the next few years, completing several courses and certifications in the area of commercial and retail banking. In 1980 he married Marilyn Courson and moved to Colorado where he joined the Empire Savings Bank and worked his way to branch manager. In 1984 they relocated with their first daughter back to New York State where he joined Key Bank of New York. His tenure in the Adirondacks included serving as chief financial officer at AMPS Media Services, director of lending services at the Adirondack Economic Development Corporation, adjunct professor at North Country Community College (NCCC) and northern regional vice president and commercial lending officer at Adirondack Bank. Most recently, he rejoined NCCC to finish his professional time among friends and former colleagues. Jon was most passionate about education and public service. He served as president and member of the Lake Placid Central School board from 1996 to 2004; president and director of the Adirondack North Country Association from 1988 to 2004; and as a board trustee for Adirondack Medical Center 2003 to 2005. Prior, he served as president of the Essex County Visitor's Bureau and president of the Lake Placid Kiwanis Club. His love for his family and community was only matched by his interest in literature and writing. Jon was known to devour books, frequenting the public library and researching historical context for his own novels and short stories. Jon is survived by his wife, Marilyn MacAbee of Lake Placid; their daughters, Angela MacAbee and Jennifer Price, married to Ryan Price; his mother, Shirley Clark; sisters, Ann MacAbee and Mary Moore, married to Gary Moore; and six nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Frederick John MacAbee, from whom he inherited his love of fishing; stepfather, Edward Clark; and his brother, Bradley Clark. Calling hours will be held at MB Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Tuesday, March 14 between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, March 15 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Agnes Church.
