As a native Lake Placidian, I knew Joan and having retired from ORDA, I watched her Teach & Mentor the children She & Her Husband taught. It was a GREAT pleasure to watch Joan mentor her students with compassion. She always had a warm greeting early in the morning and/or late in the afternoon after a long, exhausting day of continuous teaching. She was never in a hurry to stop and share hellos/goodbyes. She will certainly be missed by everyone at the Olympic Center! Sincere condolences to Jack & their family.
GOD Bless &May Peaceful memories fill your homes with treasured memories.

Dear Mr. Devitt:
I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Devitt's passing. She was such a wonderful lady. I will surely miss seeing her at the rink and always looked forward to chatting with her about skating and getting one of her hugs. She will be greatly missed. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I pray God keeps you all in his care during this most difficult time. Hugs. Lori

Joan was a sparkling personality that always cheered up the rink.
She had a youthful liveliness and curiosity that drove our rinkside discussions
on everything from politics to religion to health, and of course skating.
She liked to ask how Canada compared to the USA in matters like health care.
I remember her bright eyes and friendly pokes that went with her good humour.
She had a strong, positive attitude that always made me feel uplifted.
My condolences to Jack, her family, and her skating family.
Treasure the memories.

Joan was a loving person who brought happiness to many. Her infinite patience, words of wisdom and sense of humor were appreciated by many a skating student and parent.
Joan and Jack together not only dedicated years of their lives to the Lake Placid Skating Club, but developed a vital skating club in Saranac Lake. Their students went on to skating competitions, ice hockey, and other athletic and personal achievements.
Years later, we thank the Devitts for how well our kids turned out - athletic and skilled. We cherish the "Devitt philosophy" of loving what you do and having fun. Even greater, we learned the most important lesson - to be a good person.
Thank you to Joan and Jack's family for sharing your parents with us. They are great role models to many. They are an amazing example of kindness and compassion.
Joan and all of the Devitt family will be remembered in our prayers.
Love from the Adams Family:
