I remember John smiling and being so full of joy when I met him in the early 1980's. He was helpful and always friendly. I offer my sincere condolences to his family.
I work in the Addictions field now and I shall carry the memory of his smiling face as I go about my daily work.
May John rest in the loving arms of our dear Lord, and may he be up on his skis again soaring into the air in Heaven!
Sincerely,
Anonymous

I just want to say my condolences to the Colby family. I am still having a hard time with losing my best friend. Myself and John would always keep in touch no matter the circumstances I would always call him during the holidays or the other way around. I will always cherish the good times and the bad times we had together. I remember we would always see who could get the other one to start laughing in class. I have said this before and I will say it again the friendship we had only happens once in a life time and it was a good one. I will see you one day my friend and we will see who makes the other one laugh first. Love and miss you buddy and rest in peace.

I knew John back when we went to high school, he was a year ahead of me, but we hung out and I truly believe the time I knew him is the time he should be remembered. If you were down, he seemed concerned and would do something “goofy” to make ya laugh and change your mood, he was funny, witty and quick to help with anything. I txt with him about 5-6 months ago, maybe alittle linger, but still seemed to have that witty personality, at least in our conversation. I really feel for his family, I too know how it feels to have a family member taken too early from you, and it’s a pain that takes along time to heal, but knowing he is at peace now will lessen the pain we feel. John is at peace, no more worries, just peace, he will be missed but I believe I remember the John we all want to remember. He was GOOD PEOPLE, and even know we didn’t speak too often, I will still think about him, but know he is in a good place now. God bless Johns family, and I hope you can find peace in these words.

I am so sorry to hear that this great guy had left this world. I do remember him well, as the last time I saw him I believe was last year. He always had a smile on his face when he would see me. He would come up shake my hand and ask how I was doing.
He always made me laugh back in school. Even when the teachers wanted us to be quiet, he would manage to get me to giggle and the teacher would get mad.
To his family, God Bless you guys through this hard time. It's never easy to say goodbye.

John was one of my best friends during elementary and middle school. Some of my best childhood memories involved a group of wanna be Yankees, Dodgers and other Major League teams and the Hillcrest Park.
John was always one of the first choices when teams were picked. He was a great athlete, even back then. He was a better teammate.
Growing up we would play baseball almost every summer day at that park. Winters were saved for sledding down the "big hill". I remember how big the park seemed back then and how small it is now.
I hope that children in our old neighborhood play in that park, building friendships and memories like the ones I have. Colby will always be a part of them.

I am so sad to hear this news. I have wonderful memories of John, going all the way back to kindergarten when we carried the crowns for the winter carnival court together. I wish I had a picture to share as I’m sure we were adorable. My deepest condolences to all his family and friends.

My heart and prayers are with you all during this time and always. I pray Father God that John is at peace now in your arms and I also pray peace and comfort over the entire family.
I can't and won't pretend to know your loss, however and sadly, I do understand addiction and the pain and sorrow it inflicts on the entire family. My own son suffered for 14 years with drug addiction. At the age of 29 he overdosed on Heroin and only by the grace and mercy of God is he still with us. I am here and available to talk and share with any of you if you ever would like to. With much love to you all, family and friends alike. Heidi Grote Norton
