Edward "Eddie" A. Bechard, 93, passed away in the evening of Thursday, December 14, 2017. He was born March 7, 1924 in Coopersville, NY to the late Alderic and Rose Alma (Tetreault) Bechard, attending school at Coopersville Rural School #9 District and Champlain High School.
Eddie was the owner of the Habel Bechard Grain Co., the Northway Oil Co., and Rouses Point Coal & Supply Co. On September 28, 1968, he married his loving wife, Beverly Robbins, whom he enjoyed travelling with to Australia, Europe, China, and throughout Canada. He retired in 1991 after 37 years in business.
Eddie was also a communicate of St. Joseph's Church in Coopersville and a trustee on the Parish Council until the church closed. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #03525 of Champlain, and a charter member of the Northern Lights Square Dance Club. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his apple trees, and playing pincohle, especially with his good friends Richard and Betty Laurin. Another of the many things Eddie enjoyed was moving the One Room Schoolhouse from Lakeshore Road to Bechard Road with the help of his friends, including renovations.
Including his parents, Eddie was predeceased by his brother, Donia "Don" Bechard, his sisters Luciene Bechard Bocare, Jane Bechard Rushlow, and Eva Bechard McGinnity.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Beverly, his brother-in-law, Alvin Robbins, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at M. B. Clark Funeral Home, 196 Elm Street, Champlain, NY 12919 on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Church in Coopersville, NY on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Clyde A. Lewis officiating. Interment will take place in the spring. Donations may be made to charities of one's choice. A special thank you goes out to the staff at Champlain Family Health in Champlain, especially to Julie Steele-Goodwin, and Melissa Gooley for their kind understanding and help. Also, a big thank you goes to his neice and nephew, Ann and Paul LaPierre, and friends John and Danielle Bernard for bringing Eddie to appointments and doing errands.
