Obituary of Raymond James Donnellan

Raymond James Donnellan, 98, of Lake Placid, New York, passed away April 9, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born October 3, 1919, in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of late Edward James and Mary Ellen (Walker) Donnellan. Raymond was one of five children. He attended Billerica Memorial High School in Billerica, Massachusetts. On July 22,1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as Machinist's Mate Second Class in WWII. He reenlisted on May 20, 1947 and served in the Korean War. He received honorable discharge April 30, 1955. He married Geraldine Marie Pelkey on October 10, 1953 in Lake Placid, New York. She preceded him on July 30, 2000 Raymond worked as a butcher for the Lake Placid Club for two decades. He continued his employment at the Lake Placid Hilton where he could always be found carving at the popular Sunday Brunch. He retired at the young age of 85 and spent his free time as an amateur radio operator. He could always be found cheering on his beloved sports teams: The Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Raymond is survived by his two daughters and son-in laws: Carol and Mark Lawrence of Lake Placid, New York and Nancy and Thomas Crowley of The Villages, Florida; three granddaughters: Courtney Morrill (Scott), Ashley Bartholf (Ryan), Justine Lawrence; one grandson Ryan St. Louis (Laurianne); twelve great-grandchildren; his sister Barbara Bacci of Billerica, Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents; his wife Geraldine; his brothers Melvin and Edward; and his sister Mary Little. A grave side service will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery later in the spring. The M. B. Clark, Inc., Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY is in charge of arrangements.
